Planning Megan and Paul's Spring Break Funstravaganza

Since we'll be staying in for the majority of what is certain to be the coldest "Spring Break" on record, my guess would be that a good deal of time spent (outside of working at the office and studying will) be watching movies. The first of course will have to be the Thin Red Line. This is Megan's favorite film and we've been in possession of it for quite a while and yet I've not yet seen it. After catching and thoroughly enjoying The New World last Monday we've both been eager to take a look at earlier Malick works. Other possibilities for viewing along these lines include stopping by the Cinemasmith to rent Days of Heaven or Badlands.

The theme of the week could be "Movies that we've owned for a long ass time and still haven't watched." Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon is my next suggestion for viewing. I bought it as part of a Kubrick DVD box set from Costco back in 1999 after receiving my first DVD player for Christmas. It is the only one of the set that I haven't seen and considering Megan's taste (and my growing affinity) for period drama (read: white Western European period drama) I think that this film would be quite fitting for a week inside.

A documentary that both of us have actually seen has been a "must-watch-soon" item since we purchased the DVD last Summer. It may be a good one to watch with Jeremy - perhaps a repeat of "Thnxgvng Tofurkey Saturday", except in the middle of the week and with an UnTurkey if we're able to find one that isn't at risk for spreading soy bird flu (H5N1Soy).

But we can only watch so many movies before we are moved to venture into the cold and increase our cultural capital via a visit to a museum. And what says cultural capital more than the Museum of Science's special exhibit, "The Science of Star Wars"? Nothing. I've heard that we can purchase tickets to the exhibit in advance. This may prove to be a good time saver. We may also take a walk through the hall of butterfligs.

My cousin, Nick, is finishing his degree over at Mass Art and yet he has not told us anything about Shintary Miyake's "Beaver No Seikatsu" exhibit. (see more) In his first US show, the Japanese artist is presenting a documenary of himself, dressed as a cartoon beaver, building a 40 foot dam. Damn. How can we not witness this, especially with all of the recent excitement regarding the Jurassic Beaver?

Greatly though it would please us, I don't think that our break will be all light sabers and beavers. At one point or another, we'll have to give in and eat out. A friend has recommended a Tapas restaurant called Cuchi Cuchi in Cambridge. The restauraunt is retro 1920's and 30's: sassy waitresses, jewels, and vintage cocktails served in bottoms-up shot glasses.

That's the plan so far. Stay tuned to find out what actually happens - which will most certainly be more exciting than any plan we can share on a blog!

My Vision Quest

This morning is almost like yesterday - Megan is away to class, my feet are cold, and in my loneliness I have taken to the blogsphere. Yesterday, however, I partook in my very own digital vision quest. I rode the snake and chased the dragon at the same time.

When I had unhooked from the Matrix I had found some formerly lost souls and collected them like so much conquistador booty...

On that note, the fancy dessert restauraunt Finale was the site for a friend's birthday party. To my knowledge, nobody from our group sprung for the pastries bedecked with gold leaf. But then again, who wants their roommates sifting through their shit like a crazed 1840's prospector in need of an angry fix of the old Vitamin G?

How many more forms of internet communication can I delve into before I am a left hand glove made right pulled through infinity?
